Market Update – October 2021

First Quality Produce was happy to kick off the fall season last week. Just a reminder, there are many new specialty items available. Those items include but are not limited to: butternut squash, decorative pumpkins, fairytale pumpkins, large/medium/small pumpkins, corn stalks, and ornamental corn. The First Quality team wants to make sure everyone can get their favorite fall commodities, so call or email your representative soon if you are interested in placing an order.

Top Five Alerts

01. Avocados

Harvest is experiencing limiting due to rainfall in Mexico. The summer supply is at a steady decline, with California ending its season. However, Mexico is transitioning into some new crops. Quality is still considered fair, with a steady price.

02. Broccoli

Demand continues to exceed supply on crown and floret packs. Experienced some loss on fields due to quality issues. The pricing remains high, while quality is fair. 

03. Carrots

As for school packs, the demands is strong and exceeding supply. The overall market is remaining steady with good quality and a steady price. 

04. Bell Peppers

Quality is good, but with new regions beginning production in the East, expect better quality and of course, a larger supply. Western supply will tighten up. Markets are steady but expecting to increase. 

05. Asparagus

All supply is extremely tight. As for Mexico’s supply, wet weather is affecting it to be limited and Peru’s supply is having issues getting to Florida.  While the quality is good, the price remains on the higher end due to the issues listed.

  • 2 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs 
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 3 packages cream cheese room temperature
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar 
  • 1 3/4 cups pure pumpkin puree
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice 
  • Sweetened whipped cream if  you prefer!
